چکیده

nstruments are the key components of almost all space missions. They monitor the environment at Earth, observe other planets, and gather intelligence information, providing these data to scientists and analysts on the ground. APL has had a long history of providing innovative space instruments for in situ and remote sensing observations for both DoD and NASA. Future missions will require instruments that simultaneously achieve higher performance, smaller size, lower power, and lower cost. Some will require new types of instruments to make measurements that have so far not been made from space. To meet these challenges, APL has been developing several new instruments, including an advanced miniature scientific imager, a miniature energetic ion composition instrument, and a laser ablation mass spectrometer. These instruments employ very large-scale integrated circuits, new packaging techniques, and entirely new means for making some types of measurements. (

Advanced charge injection devices for space instruments

Charge Injection Devices (CIDs) have historically played a niche role in visible imager technologies, mainly for applications requiring high radiation tolerance. They have not exhibited the radiometric performance of competing visibleimaging technologies such as CCDs, and so have not been widely applied to space instrument systems. Recent advances in CIDs have demonstrated much higher radiometr...

Towards a space-borne quantum gravity gradiometer: progress in laboratory demonstration

Recent progress in atom interferometry has lead to a new way to map and monitor the Earth gravity field. Atom interferometer-based instruments may significantly contribute to the understanding of the solid earth, ice and oceans, and dynamic processes in a comprehensive model of our planet. We are funded under the Advanced Technology Component program to develop this technology for a possible fl...

Assessment of anxiety in advanced cancer patients: a mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND Anxiety is a risk for reduced quality of life in advanced cancer patients. However, it is an overlooked symptom without routine use of instruments to assess anxiety. AIM To gain insight into the use of instruments by nurses to assess anxiety in advanced cancer patients and the rationale behind it. METHODS Data with regard to nurses' use of instruments were collected from medical ...

Gps for Microsatellites – Status and Perspectives

GPS receivers nowadays provide a well established system for tracking of spacecraft in low-Earth orbit (LEO). In addition, GPS receivers serve as instruments for geodetic and atmospheric research on an ever growing number of science missions. The paper provides an overview of existing GPS receivers for LEO satellites, covering both fully space qualified as well as commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS...
